Native Plants want to be in your yard! Sometimes we see really great things on vacation but they may not survive here so if you have ideas or pictures of something you like, we will provide similar alternatives that will do well in our climate.  

Other reasons for Native Plants include providing berries for wildlife, environmentally friendly nursery life, less fertilization, more disease resistance, better lifelong performance and blooming.  Natives are also readily accepted on plans within the Critical Management Areas and Reforestation Projects.

It all starts with a proper Design Plan Being mindful of the horticulture and environment isn’t as easy as it looks.  A well thought out landscape design plan will flush out issues that could become costly to overcome during the installation process.  Knowing the mature sizing dictates proper placement.  They all look cute when they are brand new, but what about 5 or 10 years from now?

• Knowing what the roots will do near a buried water line or downspout pipe can prevent clogging.
• Having the correct shrubs in a predominantly wet area can save alleviate the soggy spot in your yard that occurs naturally.  It could be topography or grading, but proper landscape design can resolve an issue like this.
• Providing color and textures over all four seasons.

Example from the Field:  Tropicals—non fruit-bearing varieties of banana trees make beautiful statements around the patio, along a paver walkway or poolside.  Tropicals are expensive if you have to replace them annually.  However, we can keep some varieties year around.  They require a severe cut back in the fall before the frost and a huge pile of mulch over them to help them make it through the winter.  Over the years we have done this many times and the plants are now spreading out in the beds where we follow this procedure.
